‘Tis the season for homemade Christmas ornaments! Well, not really, it’s not even Halloween yet; but a recent weekend away at the shore had me itching to finally get around to putting together some nautical ornaments I purchased supplies for months ago. I must say, I’m pretty pleased with the way they turned out.
Gold Seashells
Materials:
- Seashells
- Spray paint
- Dremel tool
- String (or ornament hooks)
These seashells were as simple as spray painting them the desired color, letting the paint dry, drilling a small hole with my dremel, and stringing them.
Sparkling Sand Dollars
Materials
- Sand dollars
- Modge Podge
- Paint brush or sponge
- Glitter
- String
- Plastic “Pearl” beads
With a brush I coated a thin layer of Modge Podge on the sand dollar, and immediately sprinkled it generously with glitter, and allowed them to dry overnight. Using string and plastic “pearl” beads I created a loop for hanging.
Keepsake Shell Globe
I had a small collection of shells I picked up off the beaches on a vacation in the Bahamas, and an ornaments seemed a great way to display them.
Materials
- Glass ornament
- Craft Sand
- Funnel
- Small shells
- Rope/twine
- Hot glue gun
- Ribbon
Using a makeshift paper funnel I poured a slim layer of sand into the ornament. Using tweezers I carefully arranged the shells atop the sand. After replacing the top on the ornament I used a hot glue gun to glue rope around the top of the ornament, forming a loop at the top for hanging, and added a bow.
Starfish Santas
Materials
- Starfish
- Paint (Red, black, white, silver, pink)
- Paint brushes
- Small pom poms
- String
- Hot glue gun
Using small burshes I painted the starfish and allowed an hour to dry. I attached the pom poms and string with a glue gun

These are wonderful! Can’t beat the simplicity and so pretty, too.
Thank you

Love this! I know it’s still October, but it’s never too early for a great craft session with the friends or the kids!
